"I wanted to challenge myself and advance my playing to diploma standard. I was lucky enough to be put in contact with James.
James proved to be a good listener, and very quickly understood how I learn best - with encouragement, gentle persuasion, and visual and audio demonstration. He was also sensitive to the type of music that I had most affinity for, and made sure to pick pieces that he knew I would enjoy playing.
I was delighted - and almost shocked - at how much I was able to learn from him immediately, and after a few weeks I had clearly improved my tone, breathing, rhythm and dexterity. Some of this was from my increased dedication to practice, and that is also something I needed a teacher to inspire me to do.
I have had several people comment on my improved sound, and that gave me confidence to propose to my orchestra that I play a solo piece at their next concert, and to keep pursuing my diploma goal."
